Why we ranked them

Why we chose Jowi Mitchell Photography

Jowi Mitchell was born and raised in Poland before moving to the United States in 2005, and she's said she still misses her family overseas even after building a life and a photography business in the Kansas City metro. She's been photographing families and babies since 2009, shooting on a Canon R6 and a Canon 5D Mark III, and her client base covers Olathe along with Shawnee, Lenexa, Overland Park, Gardner, and several other Johnson County communities. Married to her college sweetheart for more than 20 years, Jowi is also a grandmother, which she says gives her a particular patience and perspective when a newborn session doesn't go according to plan. Beyond newborn portraits, her portfolio spans baby, children's, high school senior, and family photography, so a client can realistically stay with her from a baby's first days through their senior portraits years later. Her site keeps its focus narrow and personal rather than heavily produced, with a straightforward “Meet Jowi” page instead of a long list of packages and add-ons, which tends to appeal to families who want a more relationship-driven experience over a high-volume studio operation. With close to two decades photographing newborns in the area, she's built a long track record even though her review presence online is smaller than some of the larger studios on this list.
