Why we ranked them

Why we chose Kayla Whittinghill Photography

Kayla Whittinghill has been documenting her own creative projects online since at least 2012, when she started a blog mixing photography with sewing and craft work, well before Vermont newborn photography existed as a defined niche market the way it does now. That long personal history shows up in how specifically she runs her business today, including scheduled mini-session evenings held right in Brattleboro rather than only general by-appointment bookings. Her stated focus is on natural light, family-and-maternity-first work, with newborns as a core offering and wedding photography picked up only occasionally rather than as the main business. Because she works primarily by available daylight rather than studio strobes, session timing tends to depend more on the season and time of day than with a photographer using controlled artificial lighting — a detail worth asking about directly when booking a winter newborn session in Vermont's shorter days. For a Brattleboro family who wants someone with a long, visible track record in the same town rather than a photographer who only recently added the area to a website's list of service locations, Whittinghill's years of local, publicly documented work stand out.
